Hello, friend! Hope you’ve had a wonderful week and are being kind to yourself.
Fishbird Catch of the Week
We post twice a week (Wednesday & Saturday) on the Fishbird Central blog. This week’s catch included:
Reading Prompt - Books With ‘Blood’ in the Title!
We challenge you to pick a book with ‘Blood’ in the title, to add to your book stack. In this post we read 3 novels to get your blood pumping: ‘Fever of the Blood’ by Oscar de Muriel; ‘Blood Cruise’ by Mats Strandberg; and ‘Bloodwood Creek’ by Kerry McGinnis.
Accommodation Review - International Hotel Wagga!
Wagga Wagga is a small town in NSW, that will cure Wagga-ails-ya. *coughs* We stayed one night at the International Hotel Wagga in March 2024. Follow in our footsteps and treat yourselves to some great accommodation!
Musical Interludes, Space Babies and Don Burke
This week, I’ve been chasing a bush turkey around the letterbox in my pyjamas. To be clear, I was the one in the pyjamas.
We live close to a park, with ample room for a bush turkey to stretch his legs - however Don Burke (as we’ve named him) seems to prefer nesting in the tiny bit of chip bark we have in our front garden.
Don’s favourite thing to do is kick all the chaff out onto the road and watch me sweep it up again. Occasionally I’ll go out and clap at him to spook him away, but I think he appreciates the applause.
Speaking of turkeys, are you watching the new series of Doctor Who? We’re lifetime fans of Dr Who here at Fishbird Central, and think Ncuti Gatwa is doing a great job as the latest regeneration of the Doctor - but the stories so far? … ….
The episode ‘Space Babies’ made me roll my eyes so hard I gave myself a migraine. I have to keep reminding myself that - at its two hearts - Dr Who is a family show, and often aimed at a younger audience. I’m hoping that we swiftly move away from snot monsters and get some more meaty storylines soon.
Who’s your favourite Doctor?
We were lucky enough this week, to go and see the wonderful Audra McDonald perform live in Brisbane. Audra is a Broadway legend and it was amazing to hear her sing some Sondheim favourites, tell engaging stories about her life and generally soak up the magic that she brings to each performance.
Top tier talent. We’re looking forward to seeing the gorgeous Patti LuPone in a month or so at QPAC, and if Bernadette Peters could make it to Aussie shores again this year, that would be a Broadway Queen hat-trick that we’d never miss.
Wishes for the Week
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead, friend! Let me know what you’re reading, what shows you’re addicted to, or exciting events coming up in your calendar.
My goals for the coming week include making some art (bit behind in my sketchy animals series), knock a few more books off my May TBR, check out Andrew Scott in ‘Ripley’ on Netflix, and eat some pancakes. Oooh! And the new Stephen King book is coming out - ‘You Like it Darker’! Dreamy.
Stay cool, punks.
