Hello, friend! Another week is done and dusted. I heard on the grapevine that you did a really good job, and have impressed all your friends with your positive attitude and really pretty hair. Nice work!
Fishbird Catch of the Week
We post twice a week (Wednesday & Saturday) on the Fishbird Central blog. This week’s catch included:
Dinosaur Reads - Tyrannosaurus Rex!
There’s a lot we don’t know about the dinosaurs. But one undisputed and totally true fact that you can bring out at your next trivia night - is that dinosaurs, especially the T-Rex, absolutely LOVED to read. In this post we give you 5 books that would surely be on Rexy’s Reading list.
We read 14 books in May! Managed to tick off all the books we had on our TBR, and picked up a few more that had been sitting on the shelf for awhile. By the way - if you need someone to tell you that it’s OK to DNF a book - consider this your permission slip. Life is too short to keep reading books you know don’t float your boat.
Making Art - References & Practice
I love making art. And I’m still learning. I think I’ll always be learning, and that’s ok.
Drawing from a reference photo can help to train your hand-eye coordination, and give you ideas for new characters to add to your sketchbook. When looking for things to draw, Pinterest is your best friend. Save the Fishbird Central Pinterest page for some inspiration!
This week, I dusted off some pencils and paintbrushes to reboot my artistic journey. Here are some of my sketches, along with the reference images from Pinterest.
The mighty T-Rex! I gave him a little friend to read to him as he stomps around and does his business. A jurassic version of an audiobook.
This next image was so cool & I wanted to try and mirror it. My sketch is not quite the same, but I think these cool cats are from the same litter.
Haha love this next image - it’s so happy! I like to think that the dog - Ruffington Barkley - is so happy, as he’s just been on a sneaky trip to the bookstore. You can never have enough books!
This sweet fox and bird appealed to me. Obviously the bird has been photoshopped onto the fox in the reference image - but I bet a whole bag of seed that he would have jumped on there anyway given the right conditions.
Quick Fire Wrap Up
Currently Reading: ‘You Like it Darker’ by Stephen King - this book of short stories is also the Fishbird Central Book Club pick for June 2024! No special membership required, just grab a copy of the book from your fave bookstore, library or e-reader & let us know your thoughts!
Currently Watching: We’re working our way through the ‘Once Piece’ animated series, and loving it. Only about 1000 episodes to go! Will be interesting to see the live action remake once we’re a bit further in.
Currently Wondering: Why 99.9% of women I know, are low in iron. Are there vampires among us? Iron thieves who skitter around like goblins in the night? Dear reader, if you’re of the female persuasion - please get your iron levels checked and maybe buy some extra garlic in your next grocery shop.
Wishes for the Week
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead, friend!
We’re coming into some cooler weather in my neck of the woods, so keep cosy, keep reading and be kind to yourselves. Every day is a fresh chance to show the world how amazing you are.
Stay cool, punks.
