Hello, friend! Hope you’ve had a great week! What was your highlight?
I’ve had a wonderful weekend away with family, and I’m beat - hence the delay with this week’s newsletter. There’s nothing I like more than hitting the road and getting out in the countryside however, and I feel very grateful to have family that don’t mind being trapped in a car with me for 8 hours at a time.
Fishbird Catch of the Week
We post twice a week on Fishbird Central. This week’s catch included:
Even More MORE Sketchy Animals
This is the fourth and final instalment of my ‘100 Animals in 100 Days’ sketching challenge! Nobody do the math on how long it took me - spoiler alert, it was more than 100 days. It’s been a blast though, creating characters and colouring creatures. Who’s your favourite?

Books With Animals in the Title!
I don’t know any actual animal authors, so while I’m researching that - I decided to paw through my TBR stack and see what books I had with animals in the title. Turns out there are 14! Which one should we read first? How many books with animals in the title have you read or owned? On a side note, if you ever see an animal writing a book in a cafe - give me a heads up. I’ll have my money ready.

Hit the Highway for a Hinterland Holiday!
This weekend, we stayed overnight in Maleny on the Sunshine Coast, in a little cottage trimmed with wisteria. We packed (in no particular order) - far too many clothes for an overnight stay, a sack full of groceries, and my favourite mother-in-law.
We headed to the Hinterland via Dayboro, where we ate scones and pastry wrapped sausages under the watchful eyes of baby dachshund. Once in Maleny, we liberated some books from Rosetta Books and PS Books, had a magnificent lunch at Monica’s Cafe and bought enough cheese to sink a delicious dinghie.
We went for a walk around the area after we’d checked into our cottage (more details on the cottage in a later accommodation review) and mooed and ahhed at the cows basking in the last of the hillside sun.
On every weekend away, you also need to immortalise the weird and quirky stuff you saw. So in light of that, here is a bird man, a cursed clown in a crib (I’m assuming it’s cursed on account of it’s a clown) and some heritage figures about to do some shovelling.
Yes, yes, cursed clowns are cool and all - but what books did you buy? This trip we picked up ‘Creature From the Black Lagoon’ by E.K. Leyton; ‘The Birds and Other Stories’ by Daphne du Maurier; ‘The Farmer’s Wife’ by Helen Rebanks’ and ‘We’ll Prescribe You a Cat’ by Syou Ishida.
Quick Fire Wrap Up
Currently Reading: ‘If This Book Exists, You’re in the Wrong Universe’ by Jason Pargin. This is Book 4 in the ‘John Dies at the End’ series, which is a comedy horror/supernatural fantasy series that I’ve loved for ages. Finally getting around to reading this one & looking forward to it.
Currently Watching: ‘Law & Order SVU - Season 25’! Who else has binged watched 24 whole seasons and now sees perps everywhere? Thanks to iTunes, I’ll now be busy watching Mariska Hargitay keeping the streets clean, for the forseeable future.
Currently Wondering: If the chocolate frogs I bought from the Maleny Chocolate Co, will make it to their intended destination - or if a few will hop into my mouth on accident. Sorry, not sorry.
Wishes for the Week
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead, friend!
Try to find a few moments of peace in the week ahead, to pat yourself on the back for doing such a great job at being you! You are loved and appreciated & may have almost received some chocolate.
Stay cool, punks.
