Hello, friend! Hope you’ve had a great week!
I caught up with my brother and sister yesterday, for chats and chicken. I didn’t take any photos, so here’s a picture of the 3 of us in an alternate universe where my bro is a kraken.
I wouldn’t be mad if I was related to a giant squid - as I assume with a kraken for a brother, I’d have easier access to chat to a Megalodon - which everyone can agree is the ultimate goal.
Fishbird Catch of the Week
We post twice a week on Fishbird Central. This week’s catch included:
Monthly TBR - October 2024
It’s time to choose what we’re going to read in October! I’ve been picking 9 books each month, with the aim to read ‘the chosen’ as a priority. However, as I’m not the boss of me - I do occasionally go off-grid and read other books on a whim. I’m crazy like that. Anyway - the Fishbird Central Book Club pick for this month will be - “The Fog” by Brooke Hardwick. It’s a spine-chilling gothic thriller about a woman on the brink who travels to a remote writers’ retreat and lands herself in a deadly situation. Eek!

Let’s Get Cosy!
This week, I just wanted to be cosy and read cosy books about cosy things like witchcraft, murder and spooky castles. Now I couldn’t leave you lovely people out in the cold, so this post collects 3 cosy reads to get you in the mood for October chills. Chills being the thrill of spooky reads of course, as I’m in Australia and our months are going to be heating up soon. Who’s your favourite cosy author? The author that’s your go-to comfort blanket? Mine would have to be Stephen King - and I’m not sure what that says about me.

September Soup Snoop
September is slipping suddenly into the soup of yesteryear. So let’s take a quick rewind and see what the month held for us ... *insert science-fictiony rewind noise here*.
I finished my ‘100 Sketchy Animals’ challenge, and dived straight into a ‘100 Sketchy Faces’ challenge. Five sketchy faces already done and dusted - only (impossible to math) left to go!
I went on some lovely weekend trips away with the family to Ballina in NSW, and Maleny in QLD. I’ll share accommodation reviews in coming months - currently working on a post from when we stayed in Hahndorf SA, on our road trip this year.
This month I also dropped a lot of hamburger in my handbag while basking in river sights with my wonderful workmates; dropped maltesers all over the floor while watching Beetlejuice with my sister; hunted down a roast dinner and snooped on some hillside hinterland bovines!
It’s been a pretty decent reading month too, with 9 books finished so far! Stay tuned for book reviews!
I’m excited to see what October has in store for all of us! Do you have any exciting things planned for October? Let us know so we can cheer you on!
Quick Fire Wrap Up
Currently Reading: ‘Down the River Unto the Sea’ by Walter Mosley. We follow Joe King Oliver, a former NYPD detective now turned private investigator who was once framed for an assault which landed him in Rikers prison for a decade. Joe is out to solve his own crime while finding justice for a journalist caught up with dirty cops.
Currently Watching: I’m a few episodes in to Season 2 of ‘The Rings of Power’, and catching up on the 532 videos on my YouTube ‘Watch Later’ list.
Currently Wondering: If we should head to Bunnings today to get new lightbulbs for our house (and a stepladder to help us change them) or just sit in the dark forever like in medieval times.
Wishes for the Week
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead, friend!
A new month is on the way! A chance for you to continue being your amazing self, just with a different October hat on! And if no-one has told you lately, you look beautiful in every kind of hat! Sun smart AND street smart!
Stay cool, punks.
‘Do not go gentle into that good night. Go to Bunnings and replace your lightbulbs like a normal adult human. Rage, rage against the dying of the light.’ - Dylan Thomas (probably)
