Hello, friend! Hope you’ve had a great week!
After a wonderful long weekend last week, pointing at kangaroos and watching other people do water sports - this week has been about getting back to basics for me.
That means, remembering that I have a job to go to, getting back into writing my Fishbird posts, freaking out about how quickly Christmas is approaching, finally doing my tax and sketching some dinosaurs having a nice read.
What was your favourite thing about last week? Are you working on anything exciting? Tell us in the comments what you’ve got coming up, so we can all cheer for you!
Fishbird Catch of the Week
We post twice a week on Fishbird Central. This week’s catch included:
Spooky Reads: Haunting Books for Halloween!
In this post, we suggest 11 spooky books to help propel you fictionally through the Halloween season! Some of these reads are scarier than others - looking at you, ‘The Exorcist’! Some will just give you nice gothic vibes like ‘Rebecca’, or ‘Ruin’ plant life for you forever. Perhaps you’re moving into a new building soon, or going on a sailing voyage - I’d probably suggest staying away from ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ and ‘The Terror’ in those instances - but ‘John Dies at the End’ might help to lighten the mood. What’s your favourite Halloween read?

100 Blog Posts! Let’s Celebrate!
This week we hit a massive milestone, and published our 100th blog post!! I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved so far together! This post wraps up all the different accommodation reviews, bookish reviews and challenges, art adventures, creature features and side quests that we’ve posted so far. So many wonderful experiences, and so many more waiting in the wings to be discovered. If you have suggestions on what you’d like to see us post next, leave a comment in the chat!

High Five to a Cool 100 Posts! Now On To Christmas!
Writing and publishing 100 Blog Posts is a big deal, and you’d better believe that we’re over here patting ourselves on the back, eating reward Thai food (pad see ew is the best) and cheering for you - our amazing audience of readers and adventurers!
Your support means more than you may realise x
Getting to 100 blog posts, involves long writing sessions after a 9-5 day job, frustrated creative blocks and a thousand small ‘Eureka!’ moments. It means making time for creativity when your brain just wants to shut down and watch ‘Ghostbusters’ (on repeat). It means consistency and doubt and fun and manic laughter in the kitchen on a Wednesday evening.
But mostly, it means we’ve been able to share our love for books, travel and art with a group of like-minded humans who seem to get a kick out of us drawing weird animals and sharing the name of the toilets we see as we travel around Australia. A lot of them seem to be called Fowler.
Thanks for that. We appreciate you x (Both humans and toilets).
Speaking of Christmas, I’ve started brainstorming some 2024 greeting cards. Figure these 3 should work for most situations:
I’ll share more festive merch in the lead up to end-of-year shenanigans.
Quick Fire Wrap Up
Currently Reading: ‘The Secrets of Hartwood Hall’ by Katie Lumsden. Set in 1852, Margaret Lennox, a young widow, takes up a position as governess to an only child, Louis, at an isolated country house in the west of England. Margaret soon starts to feel that something isn't quite right. There are strange figures in the dark, tensions between servants, and an abandoned east wing. Even stranger is the local gossip surrounding Mrs. Eversham, Louis's widowed mother, who is deeply distrusted in the village.
Currently Watching: Season 2 of ‘Only Murders in the Building’. This show cracks me up, and we forgot about it for awhile. Martin Short is the best.
Currently Wondering: Why they haven’t yet made a movie about a human amusement park/zoo run by dinosaurs - like the inverse of Jurassic Park. Come on, Spielberg.
Wishes for the Week
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead, friend!
If you’re working on a project at the moment that seems to be getting nowhere, or you’re wondering if you’re ever going to reach your goal - keep at it! You might only be a week away from where you want to be!
We’re here, cheering you on. Also, order some Thai food - that can really help.
Stay cool, punks.
