Hello, friend! Hope you’ve had a great week!
Early this week, I jumped on a ferry and embarked on an ocean voyage to Coochiemudlo Island! Coochie is only 35km (or just over 15,000 alpacas) from the Brisbane CBD, and a 7min ferry ride off Victoria Point in the Redlands.
Totally recommend a day trip if you’re in the area. We had crepes in the cafe, hunted for curlews, were briefly involved in an investigation to find a man’s bag, marvelled at the mangroves and donated some bookmarks in a free little library - all for just a $1 return-trip ferry ride!
Fishbird Catch of the Week
We post twice a week on Fishbird Central. This week’s catch included:
Reading Can Be Murder! 3 Cosy Mystery Books:
In this post we review 3 cosy mystery books - ‘Murder She Wrote: Gin & Daggers’ by Jessica Fletcher; ‘Kitty Peck and the Music Hall Murders’ by Kate Griffin, and ‘We Solve Murders’ by Richard Osman! So cosy! So murdery! Cuddle up with your favourite investigator, and let’s solve some crimes!

25 Iconic Investigators: Debut Novels!
In this post we ask a selection of your favourite detectives to gather in the sitting room by a roaring fire, and return to their first adventures! Have you read all the books in the back-catalogue of your chosen iconic investigator? No? Then rush to this post and get sleuthing! We barely scratch the surface in this list - who would be your top 25? Poirot, Sherlock, Vera and Stephanie Plum need your help … probably!

The Spirit of Christmas is Dinotastic!
I dived into the Christmas Vortex this week and made quite a bit of headway with gift gathering. No idea what’s arriving in the post over the next few days, so that should be a nice surprise.
Do you immediately forget what you’ve ordered once the thrill of the online chase has finished? No, neither do I … I’m very restrained and work only from a pre-approved shopping list … *coughs*.
In the process, I found the spirit of Christmas. He is a green plush dinosaur who is the sweetest thing in the world, and if you’ve seen sweeter then no you haven’t. He’ll be a fabulous new addition to our Christmas tree - which has a surprising (but appropriate) number of animals on it.
Have we agreed when the best time is to put up the Christmas tree? It’s sometime in November, right?
Quick Fire Wrap Up
Currently Reading: ‘Tress of the Emerald Sea’ by Brandon Sanderson. Tress must stow away on a ship and seek the Sorceress of the deadly Midnight Sea, to find and save her friend Charlie. Amid the spore oceans where pirates abound, can Tress leave her simple life behind and make her own place sailing a sea where a single drop of water can mean instant death?
Currently Watching: My beautiful husband quietly reading ‘King of the Murgos’ by David Eddings. I wonder if he’s going to get me a coffee soon. My husband that is, not the King - though I wouldn’t be mad to have 2 coffees or know what a Murgo is.
Currently Wondering: Why people aren’t drinking more iced-coffee in the fictional books I read. Maybe they just need me to set a good example … *waggles eyebrows at husband who is poised to go get me a coffee* …
Wishes for the Week
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead, friend!
If there’s a heatwave in your neck of the woods at the moment, it’s because you’re setting the world on fire with your amazing achievements! If things are getting chilly where you live, it’s because you’re so cool that even the weather is trying to copy you! Science.
Either way, you’re pretty great x
Stay cool, punks.
‘Everywhere you go, always take the weather with you - and a book, pair of noise-cancelling headphones and a muesli bar.’ - Neil Finn (probably)
