Hello, friend! Hope you’ve had a great week!
Only 3 more days ‘til Santa!! Careful, they can still smell if you’ve been naughty or nice!
Have you noticed we’ve changed the name of this Newsletter? Of course you have, you’re an eagle-eyed beauty! Apologies for doubting you. Merry Christmas x.
Why did I change it?
Earlier this week as I was going about my very important business (eating birthday chocolate), I felt a mental nudge from Dad (not the Nudge from ‘Hey Dad’, an unrelated nudge from my ghost dad) - suggesting I might want to change the name of my Newsletter to a saying he often said … “Between you, me and the gatepost.”
Now even though this seemed a bit presumptuous, as I’m pretty sure he’s never read my Newsletter - who am I to go against a thought I had in my own head, prompted potentially by my beloved papa from the clearing at the end of the path? Exactly!
Now that’s crystal clear, here’s a sketch Dad often did of himself as a scarecrow. You’re welcome.
Fishbird Catch of the Week
We post twice a week on Fishbird Central. This week’s catch included:
New Year, New You!
In this post we check out 11 non-fiction gems to inspire, guide, and motivate you to tackle your 2025 goals head-on! Let's face it though, the current you is already the BEST you, and there's absolutely no reason that you should recreate yourself. Can you improve on perfection? No. However, we all love books - and the New Year is a great time to bust out some inspiration and to seek out reminders as to how great we already are.

Regardless of how many books you may have read this year, you may find some inspiration or some last-minute gifts for the bookish loved ones in your life, by taking a sneaky peak at this list! What’s been your favourite book of the year?

So Long and Thanks for all the 2024 Fishbirdium
After careful deliberation, I’ve decided to give myself a 2-week holiday this year, woohoo! This means that the Fishbird Central posts and Newsletter will now be on a short hiatus until Wednesday 8 January 2025.
Rest assured there will be a lot of planning and preparation going on behind the scenes, to ensure that I don’t lose my mind in 2025 and can jump into a new year of Fishbirdian goodness.
In 2024 we managed to write and release 86 Fishbird Central Posts and 33 Sunday Newsletters! An outstanding achievement for a small team of … me :)
A huge thank you to you, dear reader - for your support and encouragement throughout the year. It means more than you know x.
Tell your friends, and subscribe if you haven’t already. It would make a wonderful Christmas gift!
Quick Fire Wrap Up
Currently Reading: ‘Murder at Maybridge Castle: A Christmas Mystery’ by Ada Moncrieff. It's Christmas 1936 and an eclectic list of guests and staff have gathered for the grand reopening of Maybridge castle, a newly renovated yet still crumbling hotel deep in the Cumbrian countryside. Amongst them are a doctor and his new wife, tarot readers, a journalist, an elderly amateur sleuth and her cat. By the time the first sherries have been drunk a person will be dead. An innocent game of murder-in-the-dark turns into a real game of life and death. Someone has changed the rules...but who?
Currently Watching: ‘Dexter: Original Sin’ on Prime. This is the newest reboot of Dexter, and follows a young Dexter Morgan as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. There are 3 episodes currently available as of today & Michael C. Hall still does Dexter’s voiceover.
Currently Wondering: How many independent book shops would be on Santa’s route from the North Pole to here, and how long it would take me to follow along in the Suzuki Swift …
Wishes for the Week
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead, friend and a VERY happy holiday!
You’re an amazing human who probably takes care of other humans during the year in one capacity or another - so please treat yourself with kindness, love and grace for the rest of the year. You make more of an impact than you realise.
Fill the stocking of your soul with books, festive food and good cheer.
Stay cool, punks & see you in 2025! x
