Hello, friend! Welcome to 2025! Hope the new year is treating you well so far.
I’m getting back into the swing of not eating ham every day, and remembering how to do human chores like work, take the bins out and do a grocery shop that doesn’t include 8 boxes of chocolates.
How was your Christmas? Do you feel refreshed, or have you already booked your next holiday? Tell me all about it in the comments - I’d love to know!
Fishbird Catch of the Week
We post twice a week on Fishbird Central. This week’s catch included:
Books to Read in January 2025!
In this post we lock down the 9 books we want to prioritise in January! We’ve got some cosy fantasy, gothic mysteries, translated fiction, Australian crime, and a whole lot more! Our Fishbird Central book club book this month is “The Spellshop” by Sarah Beth Durst. Read along with us, and let us know what you think of the story! What are you most looking forward to reading in January?

New Release January Fiction!
We’ve jumped on the NetGalley band wagon this year, and have access to some amazing advance reader copies of new books due to hit the shelves in coming months. NetGalley have provided us with ARC copies in return for our honest opinions - check out what we think of 4 books due to be published in January 2025! Witches, murderous marriages, faerie adventures and historical mysteries! Oh my!

New Habits and Sketchy Rabbits
Did you know that humans are supposed to alternate their caffeinated beverages with plain water? Probably for health reasons, though I wouldn’t put it past “Big Water” to have some kind of agenda. Anyway - in 2025, I’m trying to increase my intake of nature’s finest and only drink coffee all the other times.
To help me remember to do this basic task, and hopefully make some headway on some other goals I have - I’m leaning in to the Future Self Lifestyle Journal (not sponsored) this year, and keeping track of my to-dos in a yearly diary.
Do you keep a journal/diary to keep track of your goals and obligations? Do you have a favourite system or set up?
My 6 daily habits include:
Make art every day
Prioritise reading
Take a photo every day
Get outside and move your pins - i.e. take a walk
Drink water on purpose
No screens after 8:30pm.
What habits do you incorporate into your lifestyle that help keep you on track? Any habits you’re trying to break this year?
Quick Fire Wrap Up
Currently Reading: “The Ledge” by Christian White. When human remains are discovered in the forests of regional Victoria, the police are baffled, the locals are shocked, and one group of old friends starts to panic. Their long-held secret is about to be uncovered. It all began in 1999 when sixteen-year-old Aaron ran away from home, dragging his friends into an unforeseeable chain of events that no one escaped from unscathed.
Currently Watching: “Death and Other Details” starring Mandy Patinkin and Violett Beane. Detective Rufus Cotesworth and his protégé, Imogene, dig for the truth on a Mediterranean ocean liner where everyone is hiding something.
Currently Wondering: If someone has buried any treasure in the park down the road, that I can dig up and use as a house deposit.
Wishes for the Week
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead, friend.
Good things are headed your way this year, I can feel it. At least 2025 new wishes are ripe for the picking and it’s your turn up to bat. Or pick. I’m not sure how that works. Anyway …
Here’s a cockatoo I drew, to screech you into the new year. His name is Bojangles.
Stay cool, punks x
