Hello, friend! Hope you’ve had a great week!
I’m celebrating by the seaside this weekend, soaking in some ocean breeze as I look down the barrel of another year in the matrix. Just googled the significance of my age, and the Internet said I’m in ‘Early Adulthood’ - cool! Jokes on it, I’ve been adulting for quite a while now. Or at least pretending to.
Does anyone else keep forgetting how old they are, and having to use a calculator to check? … *stuffs calculator down the side of the couch* … No, neither do I.
Fishbird Catch of the Week
We post twice a week on Fishbird Central. This week’s catch included:
Festive Thrillers to Read in December!
In this post we stack our Christmas stocking with 9 festive thrillers to read in December! Our December Fishbird Central Book Club pick is “Hercule Poirot’s Silent Night” by Sophie Hannah - Poirot has less than a week to solve a crime and prevent more murders, if he is to escape from a nightmare scenario and get home in time for Christmas! Read along with us, and let’s help Poirot find the real meaning of Christmas … or whatever this ends up being about. Probably Christmas!

Gone to the Birds!
In this post we read and review 3 Aussie crime thrillers with birds on the cover! Nothing is more sinister than a full-beaked bird on the brink. We’ll read and review the first two books in Benjamin Stevenson’s ‘Ernest Cunningham’ series, and solve some rural Aussie crime in ‘Canticle Creek’. Don’t let these books go to seed - grab a copy and add these fun reads to your TBR nest!

December Daydreamer 2024 List
Last week I said I was working on a ‘December Bucket List’. Feedback from the Fishbird fam indicated however, that the term ‘Bucket List’ can be a bit of a downer and conjures sad images of an elderly Jack Nicholson in a hot air balloon - bit specific, but fair cop. So instead, we’re running with a ‘December Daydreamer List!’
Full transparency, I’ve removed a long thought-provoking paragraph here about Jack Nicholson riding a hot air balloon to Heaven. It got weird. He met a LOT of animals. Subscribe if you want to hear more about his adventures.
Anyway - I digress.
The 12th month of the year can get a bit busy and stressful, so feel free to play along with our December Daydreamer List for 2024, and lean into the quiet moments. Let’s find joy in the small things while living it large.
Quick Fire Wrap Up
Currently Reading: ‘Blacktop Wasteland’ by S.A. Cosby. This one follows "Bug" Montage, an honest mechanic and loving family man. He's no longer the criminal he was - the sharpest wheelman east of the Mississippi. But when his respectable life crumbles, a shady associate comes calling with a one-time job promising a huge payout. Inexorably drawn to the driver's seat - and haunted by the ghost of his outlaw father - Bug is yanked back into a savage world of bullets and betrayal.
Currently Watching: I’m between shows at the moment - what do YOU think I should watch? Comment down below!
Currently Wondering: How many times is too many times to go into the same bakery in the space of a long weekend?
Wishes for the Week
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead, friend!
If you’re celebrating any milestones, heading off on any adventures or learning some new skills - happy adventuring! You’re brilliant, and a little bit cute (but don’t tell anyone I said that).
If you’re just living life day-by-day, celebrate the small things - tasty coffee, a cool breeze or that dog you saw sitting at a picnic table like a person.
Stay cool, punks x
“Riding in a hot air balloon, caught between Heaven and the sea - Jack sits in a woven basket full of mice and a singular bear, wondering about his life choices.” - Emma Thompson (probably)
