Hello, friend! Hope you’ve had a good week, and have found time to have a laugh with some people in your neighbourhood - either in person, or virtually.
If you’re having trouble finding your gaggle - we’re here. Drop a line in the comments and let us know what exciting things you’ve been up to, or the dreams you’re hoping to get a little closer to in 2025.
Fishbird Catch of the Week
We post twice a week on Fishbird Central. This week’s catch included:
Daily Art in January - Week One!
In this post we introduce you to some zany new characters that have joined the team in the first week of 2025. When we make art, it’s not about perfection; it’s about discovering the joy of creating, one brushstroke at a time … and then turning our creations into fictional crime-solvers! So many adventures lie ahead! Check out this post to discover some backstory on your new friends.

Festive Farewell - 3 Christmas Mysteries for Year Round!
In this post we dust the festive glitter from 3 seasonal mysteries, and share our thoughts! Featuring Sophie Hannah’s clever homage to Christie in Hercule Poirot's Silent Night, Jessica Fletcher’s wintry escapades in Murder in Season, and Ada Moncrieff’s delightfully twisty Murder at Maybridge Castle, this post is your ticket to crime-solving in an off-brand Santa suit all year round!

Choose Your Animal Detective!
This year, I’ve committed to making art every day. Turns out I can either do a thing obsessively, or not at all. This means I’m quickly creating a glut of new sketchy characters who are clamouring for their stories to be told.
In our art post this week - Daily Art in January - Week One! - we introduce you to 11 characters and hear a little about their adventures. Now they need YOUR HELP to leap off the page!
In the poll below, I’d love it if you’d let me know which story you’d be most interested in reading first. Do you fancy following one of our detective duos, or would you rather see a single character trot further down their own weird path?
Quick Fire Wrap Up
Currently Reading: “The Spellshop” by Sarah Beth Durst, a cottagecore cosy fantasy following a woman's unexpected journey through the low-stakes market of illegal spell-selling and the high-risk business of starting over. This books is also our Fishbird Central Book Club pick for January!
Currently Watching: “Eric” starring Benedict Cumberbatch. The creator of, and puppeteer for, a popular kid’s TV show - Vincent is grief-stricken when his son goes missing. He finds solace through his friendship with Eric, the monster that lives under Edgar's bed. Finding this limited series surprisingly addictive!
Currently Wondering: How many hours I can read today! There’s a lot on my TBR and I’m feeling the need to blitz some pages!
Wishes for the Week
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead, friend.
Take many a moment in the days ahead, to pat yourself on the back for a job well done. You’re amazing and everyone knows it. Now go have some ice-cream.
Stay cool, punks x
